About Us:
My name is Heather Shelstad. I’ve been heavily involved with animal rescue for the past 20+ years. I enjoyed fostering, transporting, fund-raising, educating and interviewing for the rescues I served. But my favorite activities were raising puppies and training the deaf and/or blind dogs. Both were challenging and VERY rewarding. Over 20 years of experience with dogs has taught me that dogs are happiest and healthiest when they are well trained, well socialized, well fed and well loved. That is why my dogs live with full run of the house. They are only crated for bedtime, and they don’t live in kennels or runs. I am not a large scale breeding program. I believe my dogs are part of the family, and are treated that way. All our 4-legged babies enjoy the benefits of an ultra premium diet, excellent health care, obedience training, and lots of outings and love. My husband and I have always had big dogs. But fate conspired to take us down a new path. And when we met our first Prague Ratter, we were HOOKED! We own one male and three females. “Big” is our beautiful male, which we acquired from Palomar’s Prague Ratters. He hails from the very desirable Hopsinka line of the Czech Republic. We also acquired sisters, Viva and Cibetka, from Palomar’s Prague Ratters. Viva is a brown merle female, and Cibetka is a blue merle female. They are two of the three merles in the United States. Viva also whelped one of the very few long-haired merles in the World, in a pairing with Big’s father, Volt. So it’s very possible that Big and Viva, or even Big and Cibetka could produce that genetic combo again! Last, but certainly not least, we have a tiny 2.5 pound female named Lilly. She is an adorable, incredible, amazing little spayed fawn. All our babies have been tested for Hip Dysplasia and Luxating Patella.
Our Philosophy:
All of our Prague Ratters are raised in our home with free-roam. Socialization, Excellent Diet, Premium Healthcare, Positive Reinforcement Training and Abundant Love are my priorities. So be prepared to discuss these issues when you call me. I am meticulous about cleanliness and healthcare. Our Ratters go EVERYWHERE with us….errand running, camping in the motorhome, boating on the lake, family events and even riding on the plow with Daddy! They have a killer instinct and enjoy catching birds, snakes, mice, rabbits and other small rodents on occasion. And they have the added benefit of two Feline siblings and a life of leisure in the country. Puppies from Carrimor Prague Ratters will have received the best in nutrition, healthcare, and love when they come to join your family. Our relationship won’t end with the Buyer’s Agreement. I expect to receive updates and pictures throughout your dog’s life, and will ALWAYS be available to you for advice or just some dog talk! I do my best to match the right puppy with the right family. I don’t maintain a first-come-first-served waiting list for my litters, but instead help guide you to the perfect companion for your home and lifestyle. All of our puppies come started on their vaccines and wormings. We DO NOT dock tails, but DO cut dewclaws. Merle puppies will only be sold with a spay/neuter contract, which will be seriously enforced.
